Fiery ES IC-420 2.0, new HDD, won't boot from USB stick to install software
Fiery ES IC-420 2.0, new HDD, won't boot from USB stick to install software
Hi all,
I'm having trouble with a Fiery ES IC-420 v2.0 controller after installing a new HDD.
I created a fresh USB installer using Fiery USB Installer Builder (FIB), and tested with both 32GB and 64GB Kingston USB 3.0 sticks. FIB formats the drive as Legacy mode (FAT32), but the controller won't boot from it.
Interestingly, if I use a bootable Windows or Linux USB (UEFI), the controller boots fine and starts the installation on the new HDD ¡ª so the USB ports and boot process seem to work in general.
I've used this same installation method successfully in the past, but this time I'm stuck. I also ran the BIOS_Block_Linux_Install_Procedure_E500_A20control lers tool provided by Fiery Support ¡ª it completes successfully, but the controller still won't boot from the FIB-prepared USB.
Has anyone encountered this or have any suggestions?
EDIT: only dip SW 1 is on when trying (tried many times, also reset)
what do you mean reset with both switches on? i dont think thats a real thing.
both switches used to get turned on for a network install of system software but that is not the case with the IC-420.
there is nothing in the service manual about both switches on for any reason.
either one is on during install or they are both off.
both are on in the pic.
im only going by what info you provided.
We know a thing or two because we've seen a thing or two.
The medication helps though...

You?re right.. both on is a IC-416 thing Everything triede though
i assume there a keyboard and mouse on it?
try hitting F8 repeatedly at power on, you may get the boot device selection menu from the BIOS and select the USB to boot from.

The IC-420's are trash we had three in a row that failed out of box. I put a 500gb SSD in , disconnected everything but power cable and then loaded software. Note it can take up to 30 minutes for load to start. It should eventually start repeating C1,C2,C3 and when finished it will shut down. Turn switch 1 back off reconnect all cables and power on Fiery. It took some of my Fiery's about 45 minutes to fully boot after a software load. It will stop at 00 for a while then go back to FF and eventually land on 00. My advice is if you get the load to take go to lunch while its booting back up or go do another call.
Edit to add.
I have also had to format the USB with windows then use the Installer builder to load software to USB before I could get the IC-420 to take a load. One more thing are you loading the same version back on. You can't just load the latest version . I always reload it with what it had before
